Press Article:- ONE TOO MANY PARTIES FOR NOISY STUDENTS.
A group of noisy students are each £200 worse off
last week because they refused to turn down their noisy music.
Highgate Magistrates ruled that the students had overstepped the mark
when they held a noisy party in January this year. Students all pleaded
guilty this week to causing noise nuisance at Maryland Road N22.
Cabinet member for the environment, Cllr. Nilgun Canver, said:"If people
make their neighbours' lives a misery with loud music then we will take
action to stop them from doing so. In this instance warnings were not
enough and we were forced to take further action. With a busy summer ahead
I hope everyone will act in a neighbourly way and respect their neighbours
when holding parties and barbecues."
The students had been formally warned twice in November about excessive
noise disturbing their neighbours but still held another noisy party.
After complaints from neighbours, council noise enforcement officers visited
and found loud music and 20-30 people on a sheltered decking area in the
rear garden, with mixing desks and speakers. The speakers and guests were
moved indoors and the students were warned the equipment may be confiscated
if there were further complaints. They were all issued with fixed penalty
notices of £100.
When the students failed to pay the penalties, the case want to court
and on 23rd May, they pleaded guilty and were each fined £100 and ordered
to pay £100 each towards the prosecution costs.
This latest prosecution follows the confiscation last month of sound equipment
from a Tottenham resident who regularly upset neighbours with loud music
from the flat in Broadwater Road, N17.
In April the resident ignored a formal written warning from the council's
enforcement team and more complaints followed.
The council then issued a noise abatement notice, which again was ignored.
In April council officers with a warrant entered the flat and removed
the sound system.

It is with
deep regret I inform you of the passing away of Haringey Association
of Neighbourhood Watches Chairman Ralph Crisp on 24th October. Ralph
was an exceptional leader of Neighbourhood Watch and instrumental
in forming the Haringey Borough Association of Neighbourhood Watches
in 2003. His energy, enthusiasm and wit will be sadly missed.
There was a Haringey Association of Neighbourhood
Watches meeting which took place at 7.30pm on Tuesday 9th November
at the Wood Green Civic Centre. This meeting was dedicated to Ralph.
All were welcome.
